After weeks of freeze-dried, it’s food, glorious food

The Green Dragon arrived in Capetown this week to be greeted by some familiar smells of Ireland.

Awaiting on the docks was Maurice Keller of Good Food Ireland, delivering a platter of fresh Irish produce that had been shipped in and cooked especially for the crew’s arrival.

After three weeks on a diet of freeze-dried food and vitamin supplements, the crew were able to tuck into prime fillet of Irish beef, freshly baked brown bread with Ballymaloe Country Relish - or Green Dragon butties as they are now known - Burren Smokehouse organic smoked salmon, and Knockanore and Cooleeney cheeses.

Good Food Ireland is partnering Tourism Ireland all around the world for the Volvo Ocean Race and will be in Cape Town for the duration of the in port stopover.

A number of Good Food Ireland members will provide tastings of the best of Irish local produce to the many visitors who will visit the Irish pavilion in the Marina Village until the boats set sail on November 15.

Good Food Ireland is a unique not-for-profit all island marketing organisation.
