Surfing on an Indian vibe

INDIAN CLASSICAL music, blues, and trad will collide to wonderful effect when The Bahh Band play the Galway City Museum this Saturday at 8.30pm.

The group’s music revolves around the sarode (an Indian lute ), double bass, and slide guitar with Indian and Irish rhythms. They collaborate with several vocalists drawing on the improvisations of Polish born Goishka and Irish sean nós singer Ceara Conway.

The show is part of the band’s Indian Summer Surfari tour which will see them play gigs along the west coast in close proximity to surf towns.

It was the group’s leader, Australian born Mattu Noone, who decided to combine his love of music with his newly acquired passion of surfing.

“Surfing has become so popular in Ireland in the last few years, it’s hard not to get caught up in the enthusiasm if you live anywhere near the sea,” he says. “We hope we make some new friends both at our gigs and in the water!”

Tickets are €8 and available from the museum or through 086 - 2685061.
