Galway man cycling length of the country for SERVE

Galway city native Liam Warden is among six SERVE volunteers undertaking a gruelling cycle from Malin Head to Mizen Head. The six day cycle commences on May 22 and hopes to spread the message of solidarity. The team come from various backgrounds and locations all across the country.

Mr Warden is a second year Arts student at NUI Galway and has volunteered with SERVE in South Africa and Mozambique in 2010. He hopes the cycle will aid the continuous support of the people and communities he has worked with. He said: “This solidarity cycle from Malin to Mizen is a good cause and hopefully we will be able to fundraise for SERVE.”

SERVE is a development and volunteering organisation and works with various partners in Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil, and Haiti.

SERVE communications and fundraising officer Chris O’Donoghue believes that this is the best way to let more people know about the charity: “It is great to see Liam, who has witnessed the devastating effects of poverty first hand, getting involved in this cycle. It shows that people in Ireland can do so much to support communities in countries like Mozambique where Liam worked last year. Giving up a week of your holidays and raising funds for development projects is a great act of solidarity.”
