Hot Yoga for health and fitness

Hot Yoga was introduced to Galway in 2005 by Galway native Tracy O’Mahoney and it has now established itself as the west of Ireland’s leading yoga studio.

In addition to attracting followers in their droves since the opening of the purpose built studio on the Tuam Road (opposite the Travelodge Hotel ), the success of Hot Yoga has resulted in Tracy being honoured with many prestigious awards including the Junior Chamber Outstanding Young Persons of the Year Award for Business, Economic and Entrepreneurial Accomplishment and the Business Professional Women’s (BPW ) Most Innovative Business. Hot Yoga has also featured on RTE’s Nationwide and The City Channel.

Tracy is the only certified Bikram yoga instructor in Galway city and the only Jimmy Barkan Yoga Instructor from Ireland. Her studio, Hot Yoga, is the only studio of its kind in the west of Ireland. Tracy believes that the phenomenal growth in its popularity since it opened is due to the fact that hot yoga is the perfect lifetime fitness programme and is equally challenging for men and women of all ages and fitness levels. The room is intentionally hot — 105 degrees. The heat allows you to go deeper and safer into the postures, minimising the risk of injury. Regular profuse sweating generated by the heat will flush toxins out of the body, promote relaxation and wellbeing, accelerate cardiovascular action, and facilitate calorie burning. You will burn up to 1,000 calories in one single session and you will see a change in your body shape in a very short period of time.

Regular practice of Bikram yoga strengthens the immune system, improves posture and spinal alignment, strengthens joints, eases back pain, tone muscles, and relieves stress and tension. It also builds strength, stamina and flexibility.

Classes are Monday to Friday at 6.30pm, Monday and Wednesday at 8:15pm, Tuesday and Thursday at 10.30am, and Saturday and Sunday at 11am. All classes are drop-in, no need to pre-book. Just turn up 15 minutess beforehand to ensure a place. A drop-in class is €15, 10 classes are €130 and one month’s unlimited is €160.
