Richard Boyd-Barrett to address public meeting in Galway

Richard Boyd-Barrett, the newly elected People Before Profit TD, will address a public meeting next week, entitled ‘Where now for the Left in Irish politics?’

The meeting will take place upstairs in Richardson’s Bar, Eyre Square, on Monday at 8pm.

The recent General Election saw a rise in the Left vote in the State. A new left wing force, the United Left Alliance, now has five TDs, including Mr Boyd-Barrett, one MEP, and nearly 20 local representatives nationwide, and more TDs than Fianna Fáil in Dublin.

In Galway, two Labour TDs were elected (Derek Nolan in Galway West and Colm Keaveney in Galway East ) while the votes for Sinn Féin and Independent Catherine Connolly strengthened considerably.

With the Left having made an important breakthrough at Election 2011, the question now being asked is if this can be sustained and built on? This issue will be considered by Mr Boyd-Barrett in his talk.

The meeting has been organised by the Galway branch of the Socialist Workers Party. Admission is free and all are welcome.
