Cheaters’ guide to Brown Thomas

Notes for the season

One shortcut that I take in Brown Thomas regularly (and you can too! ) is that I will visit each counter and department, simply asking “what’s amazing here?” It is a true short cut to success. It will help if you can add, as a by the way, that you love the sophisticated seventies look, or that you are sticking to the sharp feminine lines of the Mad Men era, or that you are a pared down kind of girl, or more is more with you, whatever your style is, reveal it. Be specific but not close minded. Nothing is written in stone, especially when it comes to style. The experts on cosmetics and fashion can steer you down the right path to achieve your desired look. If you are unsure what the best look for you is, ask one of the stylists. It is a complimentary service and she will spend time with you to determine what works best. Then the fun starts. Sometimes what is amazing will not necessarily be what works for you, but it is fun to know what is current and may influence your aesthetic in other ways. Soak it all in. A cohesive(ish ) theme tends to run through cosmetics and fashions for every season.

At the Lancôme counter yesterday I didn’t need to be told what was amazing. Standing before me was an entire display of nude lipsticks. My secret wish had come true. (And how did they ever know in the labs at Lancôme what my secret wish was? ) LAbsolu Nu is the stuff of dreams. It includes 12 shades, and Lancôme has taken the guess work out of it by dividing the nudes into three categories: Red Nude, Beige Nude, and Pink Nude. It is such a sexy look, and leaves lips fully hydrated and luminous. Armed with my perfect nude (shade 202 ), I hit the fashion floor and asked the teams what pieces jumped out at them.

Siofra, Brown Thomas stylist, immediately said the most amazing piece she has seen is the D&G fitted floral dress. “It’s a great transitional piece, and can be equally dressy or casual, depending how you style it.”

When Yoseph in Menswear was asked he said it would have to be the Selected blazer, again pointing out you can dress it up or dress it down

Olivia , denim expert, didn’t hesitate: “The 7 flares, they have a perfect mid wash and look amazing with wedges for the summer. They totally elongate the leg and narrow the hip”.

Triona, young contemporary, picked the Juicy Couture maxi dress: “It’s 100 per cent silk and can be worn off the shoulder or on the shoulder.”

Some of most stylish and fashion forward woman in Galway flick through magazines, tearing out looks they would like to recreate, and we can do that in Brown Thomas. Often it is not all about the label, but more the notion of the look, and that can be achieved to suit the client’s body and budget.
