Notes for the season

This just in

Just in at Brown Thomas is Irish label Laundry Room. Located on the second fashion floor, this range includes affordable, wearable, vintage inspired dresses and tops for mothers and daughters (each wearing it her own way of course ). It even has a bang on trend three quarter length sleeve trench in the perfect nude colour. My favourite piece in this collection is a drapey nude sleeveless ‘going out’ top, the shape and colour would work well with most wardrobes and on most girls.

If you cannot make it to his Mercer Street store in New York, designer Alexander Wang has dropped his first delivery of T by Alexander Wang into Brown Thomas. Hip, urban, and sleek, this look is very ‘model off duty’. The ultimate in cool loungewear, it has been adopted by professional dancers and actresses due to its understated cool sophistication and comfort. Try a few pieces the next time you are in Brown Thomas, the look will not work for everyone, but if it works for you, you have your off work uniform for the season. It seems like every celebrity worth her salt is seen photographed in airports around the world wearing this line (she will be most likely be seen wearing her Tom Ford oversized sunglasses as well ).

Also just arrived in the accessories department, a fresh selection of Alexander McQueen scarves. Statement pieces always, they are vibrant and incredibly detailed, the dark green and gold version looks vintage and is the showstopper of this drop. Less dramatic, but equally heartbreakingly beautiful, is the mint green scarf with the designer’s trademark subject, skulls. This particular green is rarely seen in fashion, it is more reminiscent of stone cottage window sills and front doors, but complements the skin and brightens the face to perfection. It is especially good on brunettes.

Just arrived at the Chanel counter is black pearl nail varnish. As with all the Chanel nail varnishes, the colour offers are something special. Chanel has now become synonymous with up to minute nail trends, and its actually difficult to make a quick purchase at this counter. You hold one perfect bottle in your hand only to be riddled with indecision when another one grabs your eye. Ask for advice. I gravitated towards the just-in pearl white and Edwina, Chanel consultant, advised it was better on more sallow skin. She suggested the inattendu, a nude, but better, and she was so right — I love it. But no matter what might be just in, and of the moment, sometimes you just cannot beat a classic, and no other nail varnish will ever come close to Chanel’s Rouge Noir, made famous by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.
