Your guide to the new season’s trends and how to wear them

The new season is here and it is time to plan your spring wardrobe. In the coming weeks I will cover all you need to know about the new season’s trends and how to wear them, from a rainbow of colours to nudes, from seventies chic to smart sporty looks, accessories and shoes, and what to buy to update your wardrobe.

This week it is all about the trend for bright colours. We have seen them on the catwalks. Bright colours are everywhere this season, from a sea of blues to pretty pinks and yellows, and they are exactly what we need to brighten up our wardrobes and our moods. We can expect to see a lot of yellow, tangerine, red, coral, and blues.

So, how to wear this trend?

This season’s palette is worn head to toe in one bold colour or contrasting shades of one colour, as seen at Lanvin fashion show. This look is perfect for any event you will be attending this spring.

Braver women can layer up clashing blocks of colours: the higher the contrast the better. Think red and blue, as seen at Prada fashion show, green and yellow, yellow and purple, etc.

To tone down these feminine hues, team them with a neutral colour such as black or nude. We have seen a beautiful combination of red and taupe at the Marc Jacobs show. Bright blue teamed with nude or brown is ideal to carry this look into your workplace. For a more relaxed look, pair a bright coloured pair of shorts with a simple white tee.

Even accessories are electric, perfect for giving a lift to your favourite clothes, especially your denims. Think vibrant yellow, dazzling turquoise, or pretty coral.

The trends guide continues next week.
