Mervue man charged with car theft and dangerous driving

A Mervue man charged with alleged car theft and six counts of dangerous driving was granted bail at Galway District Court this week.

Thomas Folan (26 ), with an address at 42 St James’ Crescent, Mervue, was brought before Judge Mary Fahy at Monday’s sitting.

The investigating garda told the court that Folan had been formally arrested and charged with a number of offences on the morning of the court sitting and, when cautioned, he gave no reply to any of the charges.

Folan is charged with unauthorised taking of an mpv at The Docks, Galway, on October 13, 2010, dangerous driving at Tuam Road, at Barry Avenue, Tone Avenue, St James’ Crescent, Mervue Road, and Connolly Avenue, in Mervue. He was also charged with driving without insurance or a driving licence at the Tuam Road on the same date.

Inspector Sean Glynn said that there would be no objection to bail being extended to the new charges and that the DPP has advocated that the case be dealt with summarily in the District Court.

Judge Fahy granted free legal aid and adjourned the case to January 26 for mention.
