County council urged to review water meters

Tuam-based Councillor Seán Canney has asked Galway County Council to review all of the water meters installed by them to determine if they are installed correctly.

“The number of business premises and householders who were left without water during the severe frost is not acceptable, going forward,” said Cllr Canney, who added: “There are regulations regarding depth of pipes and meters and they should be adhered to in order to avoid the trauma and costs incurred by people during the bad weather”.

Cllr Canney said that in the majority of cases investigated by him the issue of the depth of the water meter created the problem. He has called on the council to implement a survey and rectification of the meters and pipes and for this to be carried out in the coming months to avoid similar problems next winter.
