Singers and Their Songs @ The Crane

SINGERS AND Their Songs is an annual series of live sessions in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, promoting Galway based singer-songwriters, acoustic groups, and roots bands.

The sessions start tomorrow night at 9.30pm with the brilliant Emmet Scanlon & What the Good Thought.

The band have been busy laying the groundwork for recording the next album and Emmet has also been performing solo shows in London. Expect a cheesy festive tune or two and the band is encouraging people to wear their best/worst Christmas knitwear.

On Saturday at 9.30pm, The Molly Hicks, featuring Ruth Dillon (vocals/guitar ) and Bernie O’Mahony (vocals/guitar ), Tom Hanway (vocals/five-string banjo ), Peter Akerstrom (vocals/guitar ) and Paul Johnson (bass ), will play their popular mix of Appalachian, bluegrass, country, and gospel.

On Monday at 9pm, singer-songwriter Sharon Murphy will take to the stage. Her deeply personal songs deal with growing up in an institution as a black Irish woman. Her music is folk-soul, with a blend of Irish and Caribbean influences.

Virtuoso guitarist Phillip Donnelly plays on Tuesday December 21 at 9pm. Phillip has toured with Donovan, worked with Gary Moore, and enjoyed great success in Nashville as a musicians and composer for artists like Crystal Gayle and Nanci Griffith.

Tuam singer-songwriter Noelie McDonnell, plays on Friday December 22 at 9pm and, the sessions come to a close on Thursday December 23 at 9pm with a show by Loughrea’s Ultan Conlon and his band. Check out Ultan’s debut album Bless Your Heart. Support on the night is from Co Galway singer-songwriter Martin Finke.
