Rezoning would damage business in Galway says Ó Brolcháin

Proposals to re-zone land for commercial use on the outskirts of the city will only draw business away from the city centre and serve to facilitate those who wish to set up liquidation sales.

This is the view of Green senator Niall Ó Brolcháin, who is concerned by such proposals in the Galway City Development Plan.

“According to the retail strategy, passed by Galway City Council, there is already enough retail space zoned in the city,” he said.

“Galway does not need any more land zoned CI, for enterprise, light industry, and commercial use on the outskirts, as it is clear there will not be a high demand for further retail space in the next five years.”

He said any further rezonings would be “absolutely ludicrous” and he has lodged a number of submissions against the proposals.
