Leading department store Anthony Ryan’s will continue its sponsorship of the Best Dressed Lady competition this Lady’s Day, Thursday July 31, at the Galway Races.
A major announcement made by Anthony Ryan in advance of the event is that the prize package is increasing to €17,000, an increase of €12,000 on 2007. On July 31 the best dressed lady will walk away with €4,000 in cash, a diamond neckpiece valued at €6,000, €2,000 worth of vouchers for Anthony Ryan’s Galway store, and a crystal vase from the collection of Irish fashion designer Louise Kennedy. The runner-up will receive a €1,500 Anthony Ryan’s shopping spree. The prize for the winner of the Best Hat competition is a trip to Amsterdam, courtesy of The Ardilaun. All finalists at the Best Dressed tent will be presented with a special collection of Versace cosmetics, compliments of University Pharmacy, Galway.
As usual, judges at this year’s competition will have their eyes peeled for style and glamour. Style stakes will be exceptionally high where outfits of elegance, panache, flair, and creativity will add to the adrenaline and excitement of the racing itself. Ladies’ Day at the Galway Races is a time for all fashionistas to show off their stunning and exquisite styles along with magnificent accessories and the all-important fascinator!
“Ladies’ Day at the Galway Races is the premier showcase for Irish ladies to display the wealth of fashion talent that exists in this country,” said Anthony Ryan, the main sponsor of the event. “Standards this year are expected to be greater than ever before.”
Judging this year’s event are well-known media personalities and fashion journalists — Bairbre Power, editor of the Irish Independent’s Weekend magazine and fashion stylist on RTE’s The Afternoon Show, PJ Gibbons, editor of Social and Personal magazine, Lorraine Keane, presenter of TV3’s Xposé, and Patricia McCrossan, editor of Galway Now.
Everyone interested in taking part in this year’s Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady competition on Thursday July 31 is asked to arrive early as as the finalists will be chosen by 3pm. There is no entry required for the competition. Judges will mingle in the crowd and will invite chosen finalists to the judging marquee, which is located beside the champagne tent in the race enclosure.
The winning outfits will be announced at 4pm, just after the main race. The prize-giving ceremony will take place in the enclosure immediately after the fifth race.
