Drugs charges part of largest file ever sent by Garda division, court hears

Two men arrested in connection with a major investigation into organised crime in the Galway West garda division and charged with alleged drug dealing offences have been further remanded on continuing bail to await DPP directions.

Inspector Ernie White told the Galway District Court on Monday that there has been a delay in getting the DPP directions as the charges against Ray Kelly and Conor Kelly, who are not related, is connected to a major file, the largest file ever sent from the Galway West division.

Dubliner Ray Kelly (49 ), with an address given as care of Woodquay Hostel, Galway, is charged with possession of cannabis and possession of the drug with intent to sell or supply at Woodquay on March 5, 2010.

Co-accused Conor Kelly (19 ), with an address at 30 Rockfield Park, Rahoon, is charged with possession of cannabis herb and possession of the drug with intent to sell or supply at a premises in Prospect Hill on the same date.

Inspector White explained that this prosecution comes as part of a larger investigation into organised crime in this division and that as a consequence a major file is being prepared for the DPP. Both men were then remanded on continuing bail to appear again before Galway District Court on November 24 when it is expected that the DPP directions will be ready.
