What Community Catering is all about

Michael, a retired psychologist, has been using COPE Galway’s Community Catering service since January of this year. Michael initially read about the meal delivery service in the Advertiser which prompted him to contact Community Catering based in Ballybane.

Michael was very impressed with the professional and personal manner in which he was dealt with and, after the preliminary trial period, he signed up to the service. When asked why he subscribed in the first place, Michael said laughing, ‘because I don’t cook!’, but primarily, he wanted a nutritious meal every day and he was quick to express that this is exactly what he gets with Community Catering meals. ‘Ready-made meals and even hotel food lack the homemade quality and taste of the meals delivered to me’ says Michael.

He is also impressed with the efficient and friendly volunteers who deliver his meals and he feels that if he was ever in need of anything or in difficulty they would be willing to help him. ‘Community Catering ensures that I have a nutritionally balanced hot meal five days a week but it also means that someone calls on me for those days which is reassuring not only to the person who lives alone but also to their family members.’

Michael commented that the administration side of things is very well organised and that everything is made easy for clients to use. ‘I am always kept well informed and if a Bank Holiday is coming up or a delivery volunteer has been delayed someone from Community Catering will give me a call; that is a very personal service’ finishes Micheal.
