‘Welcome to County Galway’ initiative launched

An initiative aimed at promoting the county of Galway as a place to do business, visit, and to live was launched at Galway Airport recently by Mayor Peter Feeney.

The ‘Welcome to County Galway’ initiative which has been undertaken by the Galway County Council includes recent technical studies undertaken by Galway Airport to investigate the full potential of the site and greater use of the airport’s website to promote the county as well as improved signage. Other aspects include the ‘Knowledge and Lifestyle’ location which directly targets business and economic journals, the set up of a business response unit (BRU ) to provide a central point of contact for queries on Galway as a business location, participation in events to target entrepreneurs, and new business.

At the launch last Friday, Cllr Feeney said that “ready access to our county is critical given that we will all have to work hard to sustain and create new business and visitors in the future. With passenger numbers increasing at the airport, it’s a great chance for us as a council to directly promote our county”.

Frank Dawson, director of services at Galway County Council, said “Galway County Council oversees significant investments in the county to put in place the necessary infrastructure to support business and tourism. Elected members and staff work closely with many organisations to achieve this.”

Michael Moloney marketing manager of Galway Airport thanked the county council and its elected members for its direct support through the ‘Welcome to Galway’ campaign, and added his thanks for the “time and services offered to the airport by a range of staff at the county council from community, enterprise, roads and transport and planning in advising on its future development”.
