Ready, Teddy, go

Buy a teddy bear at a special family day out on Saturday and help a children’s charity.

That is the appeal from the Ardilaun Hotel in Taylor’s Hill which is hosting a teddy bears’ picnic on Sunday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Proceeds raised from bears bought on the day will go to Barnardos. The event is expected to attract more than 150 children and their families.

Maria Kelly, the hotel’s sales and marketing manager, says this will be a fun day. “There will be a picnic lunch for the children and a BBQ for the parents in the newly landscaped gardens of the Ardilaun.

“As it is Father’s Day, it is a perfect opportunity to spend special quality time with the family. We have live music by the Guinness Jazz Band, face painting, monster raffle and a lifesize Winnie The Pooh bear and friend Tigger in attendance. It promises to be a fun day out and all for charity so please come along and enjoy the fun and remember, buy a bear and show you care. This year, we will be having a Best Dressed Competition so come as your favourite character and there will be a prize for the winner.”

Ruth Guy, Barnardos’ director of fundraising and marketing, says each bear adopted on the day will contribute €10 to the children’s charity.

“It’s a novel way for families to spend a fun day together and, at the same time, help other families in Ireland. We work in over 30 Barnardos centres in marginalised communities across Ireland. We support families to improve parenting skills and tackle issues of poverty, domestic abuse, addiction and the impact these problems have on children. The funds we raise are vital to help us continue our work.”

Advanced booking for the teddy bears’ icnic and BBQ is essential. To reserve a place telephone Sinead or Maria at (091 ) 519743/519794. Admission to the picnic is €5 for children and €15 for the adults’ BBQ. All details are on www.theardilaunhotel.ie
