Have a Wilde time at NUIG

OSCAR WILDE’S An Ideal Husband is to be performed as part of the NUI Galway’s summer arts programme, which includes a mini-theatre festival and a Multimedia Summer Camp.

The Multimedia Summer Camp is aimed at those aged nine to 15. It runs from Monday July 19 to Friday 23 from 10am to 5pm each day. The main aim of the week is to give children and teens an understanding of what goes into the production of a newspaper and the radio shows on Flirt FM.

Activities will include creative writing, photography, attending a music event, conducting an interview, cartoon drawing, mask making, juggling, IT skills, drama, and Fansci games.

Those interested in taking part can sign up at the Socsbox, Áras na Mac Léinn. The cost is €120/100.

The Dramsoc Drama Weekend runs from July 9 to 11. The aim is to generate a quick burst of collaborative creativity and to work on sustainable original projects with individuals interested in acting, writing, and directing.

Dramsoc will also host a Wildean Week between July 19 and 27. It includes a production of Wilde’s An Ideal Husband as well as lectures on the great man from actor and director Alan Stanford and Galway poet and teacher Gerry Hanberry. The week also includes afternoon tea on the Corrib on Sunday July 27.

Sarissa Theatre Co will stage Shane Daly Hughes’s Dora, winner of the Jerome Hynes One-act Play Series, from July 7 to 9 at 8pm. There will also be art installations and concerts as part of the university’s summer programme.
