Daring New York jazz comes to Nuns Island

VIOLINIST MARK Feldman and pianist Sylvie Courvoisier are regarded as two musicians bringing chamber music into the future in the way they combine classical and jazz.

The Mark Feldman & Sylvie Courvoisier Duo will play the Nuns Island Theatre on Friday May 21 at 8pm. On the night they will present music from their new album Oblivia and from John Zorn’s album Book of Angels.

Mark Feldman is established now as one of jazz’s finest violinists. He has worked with John Zorn on numerous projects and performed with Paul Bley, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lee Konitz, John Taylor, Dave Douglas, Tim Berne, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, and Louis Sclavis.

A prolific recording artist, Feldman has appeared on more than 100 jazz and improvised albums and more than 200 albums during a decade as a session player in Nashville.

Sylvie Courvoisier is among today’s most original and promising musicians and composers perhaps best known for her acclaimed ECM release, Abaton. A virtuoso pianist, she is a leading figure in the New York jazz scene and she has worked with Tim Berne, Joey Baron, Dave Douglas, and Fred Frith. Her most recent release is the acclaimed Signs and Epigrams on John Zorm’s Tzadik Records.
