Major cycle to remember photographer Alan Gallagher

Alan Gallagher, the Galway based photographer who died last year, will be honoured and remembered at a two day cycle which is taking place across Ireland.

Tomorrow, a group of 40 friends, relatives and colleagues of Mr Gallagher will set out on the 300km cycle from Cork to Roscommon, taking in Limerick and Galway along the way.

The cyclists will be raising funds for Brainwave - The Irish Epilepsy Association, and creating greater awareness about epilepsy, a neurological condition that affects 37,000 people in Ireland and which is responsible for 60 to 80 deaths each year.

Alan was a well-liked and respected young man with a keen interest in cycling who sadly passed away unexpectedly in Galway at the age of 29 in 2009 as a result of his epilepsy. His friends and family have decided to honour his memory by staging a fundraising cycle from Cork, where Alan went to college, to Roscommon, his home town.
