Galway’s world silver medallist races for Cancer Care West

Loughrea race walker Olive Loughnane has joined forces with Cancer Care West to participate in the Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon along with the 40,000 other women set to partake in the event.

Loughnane who is the 2009 World Championship silver medal winner, has agreed to support Cancer Care West by raising much needed funds for the charity through sponsorship for her race participation. The race sets off from Fitzwilliam Square in Dublin’s city centre at 3pm on Bank Holiday Monday, June 7 2010.

Richard Flaherty, CEO of Cancer Care West, is delighted that Loughnane has come on board, “Olive is a wonderful athlete and we are thrilled that she has decided to support Cancer Care West. We are urging all of the ladies out there to take part in the Women’s Mini Marathon on behalf of Cancer Care West. Olive is going to lead the Cancer Care West team and we are extremely proud of that. We are continually working to support cancer patients and their families in the west of Ireland and every effort in helping this cause is very much appreciated.”

Cancer Care West is providing full sponsorship packs to participants in the Women’s Mini Marathon and is also providing a bus from Galway to Dublin transporting people to and from the event. The closing date for applications is April 27 2010. If you are interested in entering on behalf of Cancer Care West contact Sharon Fitzpatrick on 087-9120853 or [email protected]
