Man charged with city shooting remanded in custody

A man who is charged in connection with a shooting in the city last April which resulted in another man losing part of his hand, was further remanded in custody following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.

Anthony McDonagh (42 ) of 37 Tulach Ard, Circular Road, Galway, is charged with having a sawn-off shotgun and a shotgun cartridge in his possession with intent to endanger life at Whitestrand Road, Salthill, Galway, on April 18 last.

He is further charged with intentional or recklessly causing harm to Martin Ward on the same date.

Inspector Sean Glynn applied to have McDonagh further remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District court this Friday, July 25. He said the DPP had advocated the matter go forward for trial

Defence solicitor Olivia Traynor said she would not be making an application for bail at this point.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded McDonagh in continuing custody to appear before Harristown District Court this Friday and she extended time for service of a book of evidence in the matter.
