State of the art Mervue childcare facility to open in September

A state of the art childcare facility will open in Mervue in September which will cater for a mix of 70 infants, toddlers, and children and will offer day care, pre-school and afterschool services.

The new facility will be located on Michael Collins Road, and replaces the pre-school service operating from under the Mervue Church.

The site - which is adjacent to the Mervue playground - was secured from the Galway City Council by PD Cllr Declan McDonnell and Fine Gael Cllr Brian Walsh who are members of the Mervue Childcare Committee.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Leslie Bohan together with councillors McDonnell and Walsh secured funding through Pobaill and the Department Of Justice to develop and fit out the centre.

Facility chairperson Leslie Bohan said the project “would not have come about without the hard work and commitment of the Mervue Childcare Committee” of Motch Daly, Cllr Walsh, Cllr McDonnell, Marie Geary, and Valerie Hession. She also thanked Fionnula Foley of the Galway Community Childcare Committee and Barry Kelleher of Gerry Hannify Engineering, Oranmore for their help.

A small number of vacancies still remain at the centre and interested parties should contact Motch Daly at 26 Loughnane Terrace for application forms.
