Experience Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture in Leisureland

GLAMOROUS SCOTTISH classical violinist Nicola Benedetti and the acclaimed Irish soprano Mairéad Buicke, will join the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Leisureland, Salthill, on Tuesday March 23 at 8pm.

On the night, Benedetti and the RTÉ NSO, under conductor Takuo Yuasa, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and 1812 Overture, and Beethoven’s Symphony No 2. Buicke will sing Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, which paints an idyllic, nostalgic, picture of the American South.

Nicola Benedetti won the 2004 BBC Young Musician of the Year and the release of her fourth album Fantasie went quickly to No 1 in the British Classical Charts in September 2009.

Mairéad Buicke graduated with a first class honours BA performance degree from the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she studied with Veronica Dunne. For the last three years she has been based at the English National Opera.

Japanese conductor Takuo Yuasa has held long-term positions as principal conductor of the Gumma Symphony Orchestra in Japan, as principal guest conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and as the hugely successful principal guest conductor of the Ulster Orchestra in Northern Ireland.

Tickets are €22/18/10 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962 ), www.tht.ie or Opus II, The Cornstore.
