Run, jog, or walk in the first west of Ireland mini-marathon for Special Olympics

Special Olympics Connaught is looking for women to participate in the inaugural West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon in Castlebar in May.

The West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon is being organised jointly by Mayo Sports Partnership and the Western People, and takes place on May Bank Holiday Weekend, starting and finishing at the Mall in Castlebar.

Women of all ages and abilities can run, jog or walk the 10k route in what promises to become one of the most popular races in the west.

Many personalities have already signed up to participate in this event, including director of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia, Mary Davis.

Money raised will help support Team Connaught, which comprises 261 athletes and 126 coaches travelling to the Special Olympics Ireland Games in Limerick from June 9 to 13.

To register for the event contact Mayo Sports Partnership offices at Moneen, Castlebar between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, by completing the entry form published in the Western People each week, or online at www.westofirelandminimarathon.com

Special Olympics has been providing sports training and competition for adults and children with intellectual disabilities since 1978.
