‘Boundary-breaking’ guitarist Albert Niland returns

ALBERT NILAND, the Mountbellew born guitarist and songwriter, who shot to prominence with his cover of Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’, plays the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday February 2 at 9pm.

In 2003 Albert released his debut solo album Dirty Day, which showcased his flamenco influenced guitar playing style, to critical acclaim. He scored significant airplay in 2006 with his cover of ‘Wuthering Heights’ before relocating to Belgium.

Since then he has continued to record albums, enjoy a loyal following, and critical acclaim. Folkforum Netherlands said “Niland convinces as a virtuoso guitarist with poetic storytelling lyrics.”

The Irish Times called his music “refreshing, spirit shocking”, while Folkworld Germany hailed his “ingenious guitar playing”. The Dutch national newspaper Het Parool praised his “boundary-breaking guitar-work, from rock to flamenco with powerful vocal lines built from his Irish roots”.
