Take a trip down Kirwan’s Lane

For those of you who missed the pre-Christmas flavour of Kirwan’s Lane in Galway’s Latin Quarter there is still a chance to savour the unique charm of this fairylight wonderland over the holiday period.

Lined with rows of miniature trees tastefully erected and adorned with lights by Raytus and Mark of Yes Flowers, the lane offers an invitation to explore the treasures within. The first port of call has to be Judy Greene’s to see the hottest buy this Christmas, The Bag Organiser.

According to Greene, sales of this inexpensive accessory have taken off. Available in four different colours, there is one to suit all outfits. Also new to Judy Greene's shop is a wonderful collection of occasional furniture, lighting, mirrors and Mindy Browne clocks. Reminiscent of classic old world charm, the Mindy Browne collection offers exceptional value in reproduction pieces.

Greene has designed new pieces for her pottery range to reflect changes in the lifestyles of her customers. Pretty expresso cups and saucers with matching mini cream and sugar sets are proving popular particularly with those travelling to friends and relatives abroad. The new pieces are all light enough to carry even with the current weight limits on aircraft.

Take time out to enjoy some festive delights and sample the Christmas goodies on offer in Goyas adjacent to Judy Greene’s. Emer has created some mouthwatering cakes and puddings this year and in price ranges to suit all pockets. Kate in the Cobblestone will also be glad to restore your energy with some of her home cooked vegetarian dishes, should it be needed. Maggie in Coon Kleen Candles near the Cross Street entrance to Kirwan’s Lane has told us that her candied peel scented candles have been extremely popular this year, as have her body lotions and soaps. Beautifully presented, they make a perfect gift. As all of the businesses in Kirwan’s Lane are owner run they will be taking time out on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day to celebrate with friends and family, but some will be waiting to welcome you again as early as Sunday December 27.

Whether it’s a first visit or a pleasant return to Kirwan’s Lane you will always be assured of a warm welcome, and to experience something new. All of the people who make up the experience that is Kirwan’s Lane wish all of their present and future customers and friends a very Happy Christmas. Nollaig Shona go léir.
