Coffee and ‘gourmet’ pies for Alan Kerins projects

A local charity has teamed up with a city company to organise a festive fundraiser this week.

The Alan Kerins African Projects has joined forces with the Gourmet Tart Co to hold a Christmas coffee morning throughout the city.

The Tart Co will deliver free batches of mince pies to local companies and employees can then make a donation to this worthy cause.

The is the first initiative of its kind for the charity for creating sustainable living in Zambia, which was set up by Clarenbridge physiotherapist and All Ireland Gaelic football medal holder Alan Kerins. The organisation was named as one of the GAA’s Charities of the Year for 2009/2010.

Liam Bluett, a member of the Alan Kerins African Projects Board of Directors, says funding is a challenge in these difficult economic times.

“Local support is needed now more than ever. We have come so far to help these people help themselves. With a few more steps, we can achieve our ultimate goal.”

Michelle O’Donnell, owner of Gourmet Tart Co, says it is delighted to be involved with Galway’s Christmas coffee morning.

“We want as many companies to take part as possible. The more mince pies we can give away the greater the benefit that will be achieved for Alan Kerins African Projects and the people of Zambia.”

Companies which would like to host a workplace coffee morning should contact Alan Kerins African Projects at (091 ) 586547.
