Deacon Blue play Castlebar

THEY TOOK their name from one of Steely Dan’s greatest songs and throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s enjoyed numerous chart hits. Since re-forming, they continue to entertain the concert crowds.

They are Scottish band Deacon Blue and they play the TF Royal Castlebar Theatre on Monday December 28.

The band released their debut album Raintown in 1987. The album was not a success but extensive touring built a solid fan base, and a subsequent re-release saw it spending 77 weeks in the charts.

The 1989 follow-up, When The World Knows Your Name, contained possibly the band's biggest hit ‘Real Gone Kid’ and paved the way for other successful singles like ‘Dignity’, ‘Fergus Sings The Blues’, ‘Chocolate Girl’ and their cover of the Bacharach-David classic ‘I’ll Never Fall In Love Again’.

The band continued to tour extensively and released two more albums, Fellow Hoodlums and Whatever You Say, Say Nothing before splitting up in 1994, when lead singer Ricky Ross embarked on a solo career.

Deacon Blue re-formed in 1999, originally to play a charity concert, but went on to release Walking Back Home in 1999 and Homesick in 2001, with Ross maintaining a parallel solo career.

Support on the night is from the Republic of Loose. Tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.ie as well as from The Royal Box Office on 0818 300 000.
