Driver to the stars — Jim gives the actor the star treatment
Jim and Bill
First we had the gabby cabbie now we have the cabbie to the stars right here in Galway. Last week when firm star Bill Pullman was in Galway with his wife, to act as juror for the Galway Film Fleadh, he was chauffeured around by well-known taxi-company owner Jim Parslow. Jim, who is manager of City Taxis and founder ofIrelandwesttours.com, was driver and guide to Bill and his wife Tamara for their trips to Connemara.
Pullman who is well known for many film roles such as Independence Day was in Galway doing workshops, interviews and acting as juror duing the Fleadh but arranged to have some time out to visit Connemara.
Among the places he visited with his wife, Tamara were Clifden, Erislannan Pony Trekking Centre, ironically the The Pullman Restaurant at Glenlo Abbey, and Aughnanure Castle near Oughterard.
The couple thoroughly enjoyed their afternoons in the region and they hope to bring their children here on vacation. They were particularly impressed with the restoration work carried out at Aughnanure by the Office of Public Works and they spoke very highly of the professionalism and enthusiasm of the staff at the castle. They were given a personal guided tour of the castle by Frank Canny who was very entertaining while also being very informative. — Declan Varley
