Bursting out with Pride
Galway Gay Pride (Bród Ireland West) will run from August 17 to 24 attracting several thousand visitors to Galway city. This year the colourful parade through Galway’s streets will have the theme of Marriage and Equality, and will also see the launch of Galway’s Pride massive Rainbow Flag (manufactured locally) called ‘The Pride of the West’.
Other traditional elements will include the party in the Black Box on Saturday August 23 featuring several DJs and the Rose of Pride contest. This will be the most colourful and vibrant party/club night in Galway.
Keeping with Pride tradition ‘Glitter on the River’ will be provided on the annual Pride Cruise on the Corrib Princess on Sunday August 24.
Every year they try to bring something new to the Pride Festival, and this year will see a week long art exhibition, dance workshops, as well as a carnival in Father Burke Park on Saturday August 23. Organisers are also staging a City Wide Treasure Hunt, a Traffic Light Ball, as well as the regular Friday and Sunday party/club Nights.
This year will also see the staging of the inaugural Eamon Duddy Memorial Soccer Tournament.
Eamon Duddy was a popular member of Galway’s Gay community and a member of the Pride committee who sadly passed away earlier this year. Further details can be got on www.bebo.com/brodirelandwest and www.brodirelandwest.ie or email brodirelandwest@gmail.com or call 087-2274077
