Hoade elected new chair of County Joint Policing Committee

Fianna Fáil councillor Mary Hoade has been elected the new chairwoman of the County Galway Joint Policing Committee.

At the first meeting of the committee, Cllr Hoade proposed a motion to be sent to the Department of Justice that the JPC “strongly objects” to the proposal to close any one-off rural Garda stations as suggested in the McCarthy Report.

Cllr Hoade has stated that many such stations cover a large part of rural Ireland.

“The closure of any of those,” she said, “and the absence of the presence of a garda in the area is not acceptable.”
