Clifden to chime to the sounds of trad and classical

CLIFDEN WILL host a series of classical and Irish trad concerts featuring acclaimed acts like Cherish the Ladies, Anúna, Scullion, and Christian Benda and Finghin Collins, during Clifden Community Arts Week.

Scullion will play the Clifden Station House Hotel at 10pm tomorrow while leading Irish choir group Anúna will perform in St Joseph’s Church this Saturday at 8.30pm.

Irish-American group Ó Euskadi go hÉirinn - The Basque Irish Connection will combine the music of these two nations at a show in the Clifden Station House Hotel on Monday 21.

The Church of Ireland will host a recital by the award winning Irish pianist Finghin Collins and internationally acclaimed cellist Christian Benda on Tuesday September 22 at 8pm. On the same night Cherish the Ladies will play exuberant folk and trad in the Clifden Station House Hotel.

Also worth checking out are Fiachra and Sophie, a duo which mixes Irish and Québecois music in the Church of Ireland on Thursday September 24 at 7pm.

Sophie Lavoie from Québec and Fiachra O’Regan from Roundstone, play uilleann pipes and fiddle. They met at last year’s Arts Week when Sophie was became fascinated by the close relation Québecois music has to other Celtic derived musical forms.
