Galway Film Fleadh 2008 winners

THE GALWAY Film Fleadh came to a close last Sunday with the awards ceremony in the Town Hall Theatre.

The award for best first feature went to Macdara Vallely’s Peacefire, second place went to The Lemon Tree, set in Israel/Palestine. The award for best feature documentary went to Anvil! The Story of Anvil, about the eponymous US heavy metal band, second place went to Young At Heart.

In the Irish Feature category, first place was scooped by Lance Daly’s drama Kisses, while second place went to Vox Humana (notes from a small opera ), written and directed by Galway based director Bob Quinn and starring the Galway Baroque Singers.

The Tiernan McBride Award for best Irish short film went to Martin, directed by Sean Branigan. Second place went to The Door by Juanita Wilson. Best First Irish Short Film went to Luke McManus’ Danger High Voltage, while in second place was James, directed by Conor Clements.

The Best Irish Short Documentary award went to The Year I Got Younger, directed by Genevieve Bailey, while second place went to The Herd, directed by Ken Wardrop.

The Best Irish Short Animation award went to Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty, directed by Nicky Phelan. Second place went to My Day, directed by Eamonn O’Neill. The James Horgan Award for best first Irish short animation went to Monolith, directed by Matt Horan. Second place was Conor Finnegan’s Plastesex.

The Pitching Award went to Barbara Deignan.
