•Galway ladies football junior team play Cork in the Aisling McGing semi-final on Sunday in Mallow (3pm ).The junior team has already drawn with Cork earlier in the season. In camogie, Galway face Derry in Ballinasloe (2pm ) on Saturday in the Gala Intermediate Championship, while in hurling the Galway intermediate hurlers play Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final at 5pm in Portlaoise.

•GAA president Christy Cooney will visit Galway city GAA club, Liam Mellows later this month. The visit on Tuesday August 18 is part of the Ag Eisteacht programme launched by Croke Park in which the president visits clubs around the country to collect thoughts and opinions on where the association is going and the challenges facing it. Liam Mellows is the first Galway club Cooney will visit.The club now fields 16 teams in all grades and age groups, and with the acquisition of additional playing grounds at their grounds at Ballyloughane earlier this year, the club continues to develop the game of hurling within the city.

•Galway Corinthians Rugby Youth Academy resumes training next week (Wednesday August 12 ) at 7pm in Corinthian Park, Cloonacauneen. Parents and guardians of children aged between 12 and 19 are welcome to view and tour the club’s facilities. Galway Corinthians has a long and proud tradition of youth rugby and has been Galway’s major contributor to Connacht and Ireland youth teams. “We have an excellent youth structure in place in Galway Corinthians. Qualified, skilled and ambitious coaches supported by active team managers and a professional club support structure ensure the development of the young rugby players in positive and safe environment,” says club president Des Bleut. The club will host a festival of rugby with Old Crescent RFC on Saturday September 5 where all teams in Corinthians from u-7 to senior will play.

•A Galway United fan has a chance to travel with family or friends to the upcoming FAI Ford Cup game in Terryland Park in style. Ford will look after the transport to and from the game by supplying a Ford vehicle and chauffeur, and make sure every fan is fed and watered with a pre match meal. There will be goody bags for every child, and one child on the trip will have the unique opportunity to deliver the match ball onto the pitch before kick-off. All fans have to do is email their name and address to [email protected] with the selected FAI Ford Cup fixture they wish to attend; whether they want to travel with their family to a home game or group of friends to an away game, and a reason why they should be brought to the game by Ford. At least two winners will be selected for every round in this year’s FAI Ford Cup.

•As part of the ongoing 125 year celebrations, the GAA Museum is hosting a special All-Ireland quiz in search of Ireland’s biggest GAA ‘brainiac’. Entry is open to GAA enthusiasts nationwide who can hold their own in a battle of keenness, passion, and recollection for Gaelic sport. Jimmy Magee will act as quizmaster for the quiz which will run over two nights starting with a qualifying round on Friday August 28 in the GAA Museum auditorium. Those who survive the qualifier night will enter into a ‘head to head’ battle in the All-Ireland GAA Quiz grand final which will take place on Friday September 18. The champion will get a trophy, tickets to the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship final with dinner and a night in the four star Croke Park Hotel. The reigning champion will also make a guest appearance on GAA on RTÉ’s Sunday Game on the day of the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Final. All proceeds will go to the GAA designated charity CARI. Participation in the qualifying round is €20 per person.
