Underage rugby set to kick off

Underage rugby is set to take off at Galway’s two senior clubs this weekend.

Galwegians youth academy returns to action next Saturday morning for a new season with player registration at the clubhouse from 10 am to 12 noon.

Details on training times for all age groups can be found on www.galwegians.ie More than 400 players registered last season, making the academy one of the largest in the country.

The club boasts qualified coaches at every age group, ensuring rugby is taught in a fun and safe environment. These structures have led to a number of successes on the field in recent seasons with Galwegians winning titles at every age group.

Corinthians underage rugby begins on Saturday with registration at the clubhouse on the Tuam Road.

Children aged u-17 to u-11can join the underage programme from 10am to 12noon. Limited places are available in each group.

Gerry Joyce, chairman of Corinthians underage, has put together a special underage offering this year, which includes a qualified fitness instructor who will scientifically develop and measure each individual player (from seven years to 12 years of age ). This, along with the nutritional education, will allow the underage players to achieve maximum fitness in their formative years - although the overriding emphasis is fun and friendship.
