Take part in fun walk and help local charities

Don your walking shoes on Sunday and help raise vital funds for 11 local charities. That is the message from Merlin Park Hospital Walkers and Friends which will hold its 10th anniversary five mile charity fun walk.

The event, which kicks off from the Claddagh Hall at midday, will benefit the following charities:- Alan Kerins African Projects (telephone 586547 ), Cancer Care West (529609 ), CD Helping Hands (799759 ), Cope Galway (778750 ), Croi (544310 ), Cystic Fibrosis (086 8178552 ), Breast Cancer Research (526677 ), Western Alzheimer’s (565193 ), Irish Guide Dogs (086 0505735 ) Camp Claddagh Chernobyl Group (087 6729277 ), Our Lady’s Boys’ Club (086 8030300 ).

The founders of the walk, Claddagh man Ger O’Neill and Bohermore man Martin Geary, are hoping for a major turnout on the day.

“We are calling on everyone who took part in the event over the years to come out and support the charity of their choice from any of the 11 listed on the day.

The walkers have raised close to €1 million for mainly local charities since the organisation was formed 10 years ago.
