A big day for Galway teams in club semi-finals

The west and east of the county are represented in All Ireland semi-finals on Sunday. An Spidéal take on Naomh Eanna in the intermediate club football championship in Pairc Tailteann, Navan; Oranmore Maree face Noamh Gall in the intermediate hurling championship at Parnell Park, both at 2pm.

Huge fixtures for both clubs, An Spidéal became the first Galway club to claim the Connacht crown in eight years when they overcame Roscommon outfit Feurty by 1-14 to 0-16, while Oranmore Maree are favourites to advance to this year's decider.

An Spidéal have won many admirers this season with their brand of stylish and spirited football, but they will be up against it when they face the outright favourites to take this year's crown, Kilmumin from Kerry, who outclassed Fermoy 1-11 to 1-3 in Mallow last November.

However An Spidéal have shown great character this season, and experienced players such as Manus Breathnach, Padraig Eoin, Antaine O Laoi, Liam O Ceallaigh, Eamonn O Conlan, and Finian O Laoi (Galway minor and u20 ) will be leading the charge to keep An Spidéal's western charge to the final awake. The match will be broadcast by TG4.

Oranmore Maree, managed by Gerry McInerney and John Burke, were crowned intermediate club hurling champions after victory over Tooreen of Mayo in the Connacht final 1-20 to 1-15.

And the Galwegians are clear 1/6 favourites with the bookies to overcome Belfast's St Galls in Parnell Park.

They will look to key forward Niall Burke to fire them to victory - the Galway star having scored 1-10 when they dethroned champions Tooreen - no doubt supported by fellow Galway star Gearoid McInerney.

The club is running a number of buses on Sunday, departing the Oranmore Community Centre at 10am, while Iarnrod Eireann will leave Oranmore station at 8.12am and Athenry at 8.23am, returning 6.45pm.
