Ivan Brackenbury at the Comedy KARLnival

Tom Binn's hapless hospital DJ - as seen on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown - at the Róisín Dubh

IF YOU watch 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, you have seen Ivan Brackenbury, the hapless hospital DJ with the unwitting knack of playing the most inappropriate songs for the patients.

Ivan Brackenbury is one of three main alter-egos of the acclaimed comedian Tom Binns, the others being Ian D Montford and The Ventriloquist. He is bringing 'Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Show' to the Róisín Dubh's Comedy KARLnival on Tuesday January 22. The Guardian said that with Brackenbury, “Binns has his character nailed and he mines the comic seam, ruthlessly to create top-quality entertainment with practically universal appeal."

Binns is the star and co-writer of the BBC 1's Hospital People, which was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award, Trident Comedy Award, and Perth International Fringe Comedy Award; he was voted a ‘Fosters Comedy God’; and won Best International Act at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival, the Adelaide Fringe, and Nottingham International Comedy Festival; and has won three Sony Gold Awards.

Also on the bill is Galway's Johnny Graham, winner of Show Me The Funny 2012 and the Tedfest Toilet Duck Award winner 2017. He has shared the stage with Dave McSavage, the Rubberbandits and Farmer Michael, and was the star of viral video, Man Flu: The Truth, which has received more than a million hits. Johnny also runs Ireland’s Smallest Comedy Club in The Dew Drop Inn.

Performing under a pseudonym to protect her identity and sense of humour from her primary school students, Brossie is a teacher and wickedly sharp comedian. The MC is Karl Spain. Doors are at 8pm. Tickets are €6 from Róisín Dubh, www.roisindubh.net, or OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street.
