Beardyman @ Monroe's for GIAF 18

The human beatbox is back - show includes DJ set frm Dexy's Midnight Runners leader Kevin Rowland

“A CROSS between a DJ, a comedian, and a human sound-sample library," is how The Guardian described Beardyman. It could have also added front-rank improv artist and entertainer to that description.

Beardyman (aka Darren Foreman ) is a two times UK Beatbox champion. His ability to combine being a DJ, musician, comedian, and impressionist, makes for a unique and engaging performer as he will show when he plays Monroe’s, Dominick Street, on Saturday July 28 at 11pm.

Foreman's interest in the possibilities of sound began when he started imitating Police Academy's Michael Winslow as a child. His first musical venture was composing a symphony for his school orchestra aged 10. He samples the sounds his dextrous vocal chords make, then loops them through a machine he constructed himself. He takes audiences on full–length musical journeys, darting from exhilaratingly ad–hoc rave–ups, to mash–ups of classic tunes.

Tickets are €20 via www.giaf.ie Beardyman will be followed by a DJ set from Dexy's Kevin Rowland.
