Man threatens to kill garda when he gets out, court hears

A Galway man who threatened to kill a garda when he got out of jail has been remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court tommorrow.

Paul McDonagh (31 ) with an address at Tullow Land, Tullow, Carlow, but formerly of 60 Innishannagh Park, was brought before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court last Monday after being arrested on foot of a bench warrant issued last October.

Garda Gerry Dunne gave evidence that the defendant had been arrested at Bishop O’Donnell Road at 1.52pm that day and it was discovered that another bench warrant was in existence. The bench warrant referred to a hearing date for a charge of alleged burglary at the Warwick Hotel in Salthill on March 24, 2008. There was also a summons for criminal damage at the train station.

The court heard that in reply to one of the charges the defendant told Garda Dunne: “I will get out in a few years and I will f**king kill you”.

Inspector Pat McHugh made an application for the defendant to be remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court tomorrow, March 27.
