ADVENTURERS ON mind-blowing journeys of courage and endurance, in the most remote, spectacular, and extreme corners of the globe, will be be on screen at the Town Hall Theatre when the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2018 returns to Galway.

The festival takes place on Wednesday May 16, with films chosen from hundreds entered into the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival, which takes place every year in the Canadian Rockies.

The Galway screenings are Edges, about 90-year-old ice skater Yvonne Dowlen; The Frozen Road, about Yorkshireman Ben Page's cycle tour through the Canadian Arctic; Ice Call, featuring a man who treats Mount Blac as a skae park; Imagination, where a child daydreams he is "a skier doing all sorts of crazy tricks down the snow-filled urban landscape"; and a five minute documentary on mountain biker Micayla Gatto.

The Galway screening will also feature Into Twin Galaxies, a 52 minute film charting adventurers Ben Stookesberry, Sarah McNair-Landry, and Erik Boomer on their extreme mission through Greenland, crossing 1,000km over the Greenland Ice Cap to reach the northernmost river ever paddled; and Stumped, a film about Maureen Beck, who may have been born missing her lower left arm, but that has not stopped her from climbing cliffs and mountains.

“UK and Irish audiences have a huge passion for adventure, so we’re delighted to be able to share these amazing films and their intrepid characters with wider audiences and even more venues, said the festival tour director Nell Teasdale. “We guarantee the tour will inspire viewers to start planning their own outdoor adventures too!”
