New Volkswagen Sharan MPV on the way

The long-overdue new Volkswagen Sharan made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show last week.

Based on a new platform and with new twin sliding doors feature, the all-new Sharan MPV offers a seven seat configuration and a range of frugal, yet powerful, petrol and diesel engine.

Ford leads the rising market, but Toyota powers on

The rise in new car sales accelerated last month, as registrations grew by 38 per cent over February 2009. And the the jump in sales of vans was even more pronounced, at 72 per cent. Even with a couple of big fleet deals by two marques, this is a remarkable sales performance for vans and light commercials.

According to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, a total of 12,325 cars were registered last month, up from 8,950 in the same period last year.

Toyota Verso gets five stars in Euro NCAP crash test

The Toyota Verso has been awarded a maximum five-star rating in the 2010 Euro NCAP safety performance test programme.

One of the top three handling MPVs as I discovered on a recent test, the Verso scored 89 per cent for adult occupancy, 75 per cent for child occupancy, 69 per cent for pedestrian impact and 86 per cent for safety assistance.
