Education seminars for senior cycle students
Waterford’s number one provider of students to Irish universities, Yeats College, Waterford will sponsor a series of educational seminars focusing on preparation for the senior cycle.
The seminars, delivered by education and career guidance professionals, will concentrate on subject choice, senior cycle options, CAO applications and common pitfalls; they are designed to arm students with the information necessary to prepare them for their Leaving Certificate journey.
Yeats College, which recently reported the highest ever demand for places on their Easter revision courses, will sponsor the information sessions in Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford.
Commenting on the seminars, speaker Anne McGrath advised parents and students that careful consideration of senior cycle subjects is essential in order to ensure that a chosen career path can be followed.
“We have noticed an increase in the number of students repeating their Leaving Certificate over the past couple of years. Students are pushing themselves to achieve their first choice on the CAO application and are less likely to accept second or third place options” she commented.
“With the proposed changes for the third-level education system, and a shortage of school-leaver career options, competition for university courses is at an all time high. Knowing the subjects that you require for specific courses, adopting the subjects that you have a flare for and perform best in, and understanding the CAO system are all crucial when preparing for the Leaving Certificate programme” she added.
The seminars take place in Hotel Kilkenny on May 12, The Ferrycarrig Hotel,Wexford on May18 and Waterford Woodlands Hotel on May 19. For more information on the education seminars contact Yeats College on 051 304211 or visit www.yeatscollege.ie
