Oasis of calm available to youths affected by drugs
The abuse of alcohol and other drugs in the family was the primary reason why children were being monitored by social workers under child protection guidelines, according to the most recent government report on childcare services.
While drug users can gain help from a number of sources locally, there are very limited services available for young people who are affected by someone else’s drug use.
To meet this need Ossory Youth and the HSE Substance Misuse Team have joined forces to offer support for young people aged 12 to 19 years who are affected by the drug use of someone close to them. The Oasis Group is to meet every Thursday in Kilkenny City from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The group will offer a safe, social and comfortable space where members can gain support from peers who are also affected by the use of alcohol or other drugs, be they prescription, legal or illegal, by family or by their friends.
