Under 9 League: Evergreen 2, East End United 3
A terrific game saw Evergreen very unlucky not to rescue a point from this game. Early on they fell behind by three quick goals shared by Conor Murphy and Cillian Power (2) as East End looked stronger, quicker and more skilful than the City team.
But that all changed as the opening half progressed. Evergreen suddenly found their feet. They began to defend much better and they started to create some great chances. They were rewarded late in the first period when Seamus Liston struck the East End net. But still East End must have felt that a victory was comfortably in their reach as the second half began. However Evergreen started where they left off and kept pressuring the Bennettsbridge side. Finally they were rewarded when Diarmuid Nolan struck gold from close range. While East End made a couple of good chances which they passed up, Evergreen were unlucky to see a late chance cleared desperately by the East End defence. A wonderful match ended with the country side going home happy and all the parents and supporters on the sideline must have been encouraged by the performances of all the youngsters on show.
