First Quiet Man Festival will take place in Cong
At 7pm on Friday August 26, at the Celtic cross in Cong, County Mayo, the iconic film star Maureen O’Hara will open the first Quiet Man Festival.
This year sees 60 years since the making of The Quiet Man, which was filmed in Ireland and featured a host of Irish stars together with Maureen O’Hara and John Wayne. The Quiet Man is an iconic movie that has brought hundreds of millions of visitors to Ireland. Uniquely it is the first movie in which the Irish language was spoken.
Ms O’Hara at all times promotes her Irishness and the love of her country and is delighted to be invited by the people of Cong for the first Quiet Man Festival.
Cong will celebrate the festival from August 26 to 28. The Saturday and Sunday are especially dedicated as Thornton Family Days (Thornton being John Wayne’s character in the film).
