Terrifying tales at Athlone Castle

Athlone Castle will host a ‘Spooky Storytelling’ evening with Aideen McBride in the Upper Keep on Saturday, October 28, with three sessions taking place at 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm.

The first two sessions will be for four to eight year olds and the last session will be for children aged eight years and older.

Aideen promises to entertain your ‘little monsters’ with slightly spooky, family friendly stories which encourage audience participation to get everyone in the mood for Halloween.

Carmel Duffy, manager of Athlone Arts & Tourism, said: “Athlone Castle is steeped in history. What better place to spend Halloween than in the ghostly presence of Athlone’s past warriors and heroes. It’ll be a fun evening of storytelling and learning with a few scares along the way. We encourage parents to be sure to pre-book by contacting Athlone Castle in advance as places for this event will be limited.”

Prices for the event and a visit to the castle visitor centre on the day are: €6 for adults, €4.50 for students and senior citizens, and €3 for a child (aged four to 15 ). Family tickets are available, with entry for two adults and one or two children costing €15, and two adults with three or four children costing €20.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Price includes admission to the Visitor Centre. Places are limited and ideally should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
