A team of students from Marist College, Athlone will represent Ireland later this month in this year’s F1 in Schools finals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
F1 in Schools is a worldwide competition, with over 20 million students competing across 25 countries, and is the world’s largest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths ) competition.
To take part in the competition, the team are required to design and manufacture a miniature Formula 1 race car and race against other teams, construct an eye-catching pit display to show off our work, and make portfolios and verbal presentations regarding their journey in the competition. Teams have to raise their own funds by getting sponsorship from companies or fundraising in the community.
The Marist team competed in the Irish National Finals under the name Force Racing and were placed third overall, along with winning the Best Engineered Car award and the Research & Development award. They decided to collaborate with a team from Malaysia to form our current team – Team Quantum.
They have been working hard all summer for this project, and hope their hard work will pay off. They would like to thank all of their sponsors for helping them throughout the competition; Wineport Lodege, Westmeath County Council, Abec357, EDS, LIT, Yeloblade, ASTI, Mondello Park, Shannon Orthodontics, AIB, AIT, and O’Meara’s Opel Garage.
