McFadden praises Lebanon-bound troops

Athlone-based Senator, Gabrielle McFadden, has praised the members of the 110th Infantry Battalion who travel this week to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL ).

Senator McFadden praised each of the 336 men and women who have volunteered to take on this mission.

“Peacekeeping is a very important job, sometimes carried out in challenging circumstances, but it is a role that you carry out with dedication and professionalism,” she said.

“As someone from a family with an Army history, and who grew up overlooking the parade grounds, I have always had a great ‘grá’ for Óglaigh na hÉireann.

“Seeing the 110th Infantry Battalion on parade on Friday in Athlone, I could not help but be impressed with their demeanour and their obvious pride in continuing the association that Ireland has had with UNIFIL since its inception almost 40 years ago.

“You do a great job at home and abroad, and we are very proud of you. May you be safe and secure in your deployment and return to continue to serve your country with pride and distinction.”
